| Viswa Brahmins, also called Visvakarmas, is a community comprising five sub castes namely- carpenters, sculptors, blacksmiths, coppersmiths and goldsmiths. Viswa Brahmins are traditionally the descendants of the sons of Lord Vishwakarma- Manu, Maya, Twashtha, Silpi and Vishwajnya. Viswa Brahmins are classified into 5 gotras- Sanaga, Sanatana, Abhuvana, Pratanan and Suparna- which are further sub divided into 25 upagotras. They are found in MP, HP, AP, UP, Punjab, Bihar and other nearby states. |
