The rituals followed in Vokkaliga are similar to other south India weddings, where the Vokkaliga groom ties the 'mangalsutra' around the bride's neck, known as Thali. The sari of the bride (pallav) is tied to shalya (shawl) of the Vokkaliga groom, and the couple takes three circles of the 'mandap', and go outside to view the sun. It is believed that the sun is the witness to the union. The Vokkaliga grooms and the brides also have to take Saptapadi, which are seven steps around the sacred fire.
