Padmashali is the social group of Telugu weavers, settled in south India in states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It is considered to be the third largest community in AP and its members are involved in the occupation of weaving. This group traces its origin to Brugu Maharshi followed by Bhakta Markandeya, the one who won life from Yama. The cultural practices of Padmashalis are based on Vedic principles and it is believed that their art of weaving came from Ayoni Putra, Sri Bhavana Maharshi.
