Nambiar

Nambiar is a title that dignifies some endogamous communities of Nairs in Kerala. This word comes from a Malayalam term ‚Nambuka‚„ (trust) or ‚Nambu‚„ (truth) meaning those who are trusted. This term is affixed by those who were the feudal estate owners, leaders of militias or were from landed gentry.
Nambiar matrimonial follow matrilineal system of inheritance and live in units called Tharavadus. Some of their general customs are pulikudi, K„thukuthu, Vidy„rambham, T„likettu, Sambandham, etc.
