Nagar is one of the oldest Brahmin communities and historians claim that Nagar Brahmins are Aryans. But there are different stories of their origin as some say they came from Greece, Syria or other regions in proximity to this area. Another interesting account of their origin is based on the literal meaning of ‚Nagar‚„ i.e. ‚people living in mountainous regions‚„. Besides these versions of historians, the origin of Nagars is related to mythology as well with different legends and tales being told.
