Lingayatism is a Hindu religious sect, or according to Lingayats, an independent religion in India. The believers of this faith are known as Lingayats or Veera shaivas and they are basically the worshippers of Shiva. The term has been derived from Lingavantha in Kannada. Few aspects which are important to be followed in the Lingayat religion, are five codes of conduct- Panchāchāras, eight shields- Ashtāvarana and Shatsthala -the concept of six levels of attainment to be achieved by the devotee.
