Mukkulathor (people of the three clans) is made up of the Thevar (aristocrats) people and Kalar is one of the three groups, other two being Maravar and Agamudaiyar. Kallar literally means brave people and these people are called by different names. Thevar women in Tamil Nadu are generally addressed as ‚Nachiyar‚„.
Kalar matrimonial celebrations follow rituals like saakchhya gandh and shalmaudi (engagement), Kuldev and Mata Murai worship, sulagna lagana, recitation of mangalstak and various others.
