Hindus are adherents of Hinduism, a set of religious, philosophical and cultural systems that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Hindu scriptures, which are divided into Sruti (revealed) and Smriti (remembered) lay the foundation of Hindu beliefs which mainly include dharma, karma, ahimsa and samsara.
Hinduism is the world's third largest religion with more than a billion adherents. Majority of Hindus, nearly 900 million, live in India while others are spread in southern and Southeast Asia.
