Billava
Matrimonial
Billava, one of the largest Hindu Tulu communities in India, is found in the states of Kerala and Karnataka. The term Billava is a variant of the proto-Dravidian word, Villavars, the warrior caste in ancient times. Billavas usually speak in Tulu but many of them use Kannada as their primary language. They can be classified on the basis of language and culture though the two major groups are Malayali/Thiyya Billavas and Tulu Billavas. Baidya, Gujran, Palan, etc. are among their common surnames.
