Mallah is an occupational community, chiefly settled in the northern states of India like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal. Most of them are boatmen, though some members are also engaged in agricultural activities. The members are mostly practicing Hindus though some also follow Islam. The wedding celebrations of the Mallah community members depend on the religion and the state. Mallah Brides usually dons traditional Indian attire like saris and lehengas on the wedding day.
