Kuruba or Kuruma community members follow Hindus rituals and customs. They were earlier shepherds but diversified into various professions. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have concentration of Kuruba community members. They are known by different names, like 'Dhangars' in the state of Maharashtra and 'Kurma' in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Kuruba grooms have sub castes like Betta Kuruba, Harasu Kuruba, Gonda Kuruba, Doddae Kuruba, Sanchari Kuruba and Hale Kuruba.
