Goud Saraswat Brahmins are Hindu Konkani Brahmins that speak Konkani language. They originally inhabited the land around river Saraswati and belong to Smarta traditions. They preach lord Shiva, Vishnu and Ganesha and have vegetarian diet. Konkani Gaud Saraswat people are very educated and use surnames like Shenoy, Pai, Kamath, Hegde, Vaidya, Prabhu, Acharya and Mahajan after their names. Today, they are mainly settled in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka states situated on the west coast of India.
