Kayastha Mumbai are considered to be very easygoing and amicable people. They are those Mumbaikars who belong to the community of Kayasthas, the caste with a dual-varna status i.e. both Brahmin and Kshatriya. Kayathas are different from Hindu castes in terms of their worship of an ancestor, Shree Chitraguptaji and in the practice of worshipping pen, papers and books.

Marriage in Kayastha is preferred within specific sub castes as they practice caste endogamy like other communities in India.
