Kashmiri Pandit community belongs to the Brahmin caste under the Hindu Varna system. The wedding celebrations of Kashmiri Pandit are elaborate function with rites, specific to the community. A Kashmir Pandit groom is distinguishable on the wedding day by his characteristic attire. He usually wears a sherwani with a turban called goedastar. Tying the turban is an important ritual and the paternal uncle of groom does it. The groom's wedding turban has a peacock feather tied with a golden thread.
