Karana is the upper class community that is based mainly in Orissa. This is an intellect community, which is entrusted to do the writing work. The Karana grooms are mainly associated with the professions of teaching, administration work, accountancy, and similar works. The rituals in a Karana wedding are similar to Brahmins and Kayasthas in North India. The Karana community has quite broad-minded people, who otherwise prefer same caste wedding, but are not orthodox about inter caste marriages.
