Gujjar Meerut
Matrimonial
Gujjar are divided into Hindus and Muslims but most of them still follow Hindu practices and worship a family deity. The two most important festivals for Muslim Gujjars are Id-al-Zuha and Id-al-Fitr even as they celebrate Hindu festivals like Holi and Nag Panchmi. Meerut is named so after the place called Maya Rashtra according to some sources while others say it is associated with the Gujjar King of Indraprastha. Gujjar Meerut is a large community with various gotras like Kataria, Bhatiya, etc.
