Garhwalis are inhabitants of Garhwal Himalayas and are an Indo-Aryan ethno-linguistic group. Marriages in Garhwali matrimony are very traditional, and they believe in arranged marriages in same caste. The Garhwali wedding procession starts with a red flag, which signifies the Garhwali groom and is known as 'nishaan'. In the same procession, the last man of the baraat carries a white flag representing the bride. The Garhwali grooms wear sherwani or suit at the time of wedding.
