The Ahoms established their kingdom in present day Assam and ruled it for almost 600 years. The Tai Ahoms who came to the state followed their religion and spoke the Tai language. Over time, they adopted the Assamese language and converted to Hinduism becoming the dominant group of Assam. Assamese Hindu Ahoms are today settled in eastern region or high lands of the state known as Upper Assam.
The Assamese Hindu marriage is usually a 3 day program celebrated with various traditional customs.
